Our staff members are highly trained, experienced, and much like our customers have come to love running from a variety of different backgrounds, abilities, and reasons why they love to run. One thing that is common among everyone at Blue Ox Running is their passion to help people, smile, and have fun!
How did you start running? I started running to train for soccer seasons back in high school, but when the structure of the seasons ended I wanted to keep it going. One of my friends suggested working out with this group called November Project - Madison. If anyone has ever been in an November Project workout, you know why I still run. If you haven't, you best find one and you'll understand. Just show up!
What’s your favorite thing about running? Depends on the run, but I love running with people because I love to hear their stories. That's one thing that I truly cherish. When I'm solo, I take that time to meditate.
What other activities do you enjoy? Anything outdoors--hiking, biking, swimming, soccer, frisbee, anything. Get me outdoors and I'll be in a good mood, but lately I've been really into gardening. I also love a good cup of coffee and chat, drawing, and playing music.
What’s something that your friends know about you that others don’t? My handwriting. They know my handwriting especially well because they have to struggle to read it whenever I write them a letter. :)
What’s something you love to chat about with customers? Injuries and events. With a background in Athletic Training I love to hear about your injuries, your struggles, and your perseverance. I also like to hear what's going on in the area, so I appreciate updates on the town. I geek out a bit about community projects.
What's one of your mottoes? Pay it forward. I like to think that even small acts of kindness can make someone's day great. Everyone needs a great day from time to time.
How did you start running? Throughout middle and high school, I couldn’t stand running. I’d run once and my shins would hurt for a week. While in college, a coworker convinced me to sign up for a race that would benefit one of my favorite charities. He also introduced me to good running shoes. I couldn’t believe that the only thing that kept me from running for a decade was bad shoes!!
What's your favorite thing about running? As a social worker, I spend much of my week indoors and often in emotional situations. Running (and going on walks) gives me the opportunity to get into nature and let my mind wander, forgetting about whatever happened that day.
What other activities do you enjoy? Hiking, spending time on the water, dancing, road trips, cribbage, checking out breweries & distilleries, and most importantly-bad jokes & puns!
What's something that your friends know about you that others don't? I definitely asked my friends this question. Besides a few sarcastic remarks, this is what they came up with: One of my favorite things to do is read research studies (not just articles about recent studies) especially in the areas of new medications/treatments, mental health & substance abuse. It’s SO interesting.
What's something you love to chat about with customers? I love hearing about people’s fitness goals whether it’s an ultra marathon, completing a 5K, or beginning a walking routine. I also like to hear about what the customer is passionate about—their work, family, hobby, etc.
What are the top things on your bucket list? Visit all 50 states, explore all 59 National Parks, go cave-diving, paraglide in the Swiss Alps, & have a positive impact on as many lives as possible! :)
How did you start running? I started running by joining cross country for fun and ended up loving it!
What’s your favorite thing about running? For me running is a great way to de-stress and connect with others! Running also allows me to set goals and overcome mental and physical barriers.
What other activities do you enjoy? Other than running I really enjoy cooking/baking and outdoor activities like camping, hiking, canoeing.
What’s something that your friends know about you that others don’t? Something that my friends know about me that others don't is that I eat a sweet potato every day.
What’s something you love to chat about with customers? I love to talk to customers about their goals or hobbies but I'm also always down for a good funny story.
Where is the coolest place you have ever run? Running in Reutte, Austria was awesome because I was in the mountains and met some friendly cows that licked my hand when I tried to pet them.
